The first Emergency Use Authorization (EUA), issued Dec. 11, 2020 for the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine for individuals 16 years of age and older was based on safety and effectiveness data from a randomized, controlled, blinded ongoing clinical trial of thousands of individuals.
After the first batch of Covid-19 Vaccines were made available to Tennessee, these precious vaccines were first administered to healthcare workers and the elderly/immunocompromised population. A large percentage of Tennessee elderly population resided in Long Term Care (LTC), Memory Care, and/or Assisted Living Facilities (ALF) and amongst those chosen to go into these facilities throughout Tennessee and administer these life saving vaccines was Pharmalife founder Dr. Marcus Jackson PharmD, MBA.
Dr Jackson – This was a time where the elderly population could not see their loved ones because of the new Covid precautions. As I entered these facilities fully gowned in precautious garments, I quickly realized that pharmaceutical care was not utilized as I assumed in these facilities. Where was the Pharmacist presence? Where are the other providers? Nevertheless, as I vaccinated these residents, I began to think about what provider was going to give these residents their 2nd and 3rd Covid-19 Vaccine (at that time). These residents would have to go into the world and risk exposure to Covid-19 to receive these additional vaccines. At that point, my heart was pricked. Why not me? I can provide a service that meets the needs of these residents right where they are.
The Covid Pandemic started in 2020, and PharmaLife Community Pharmacy, LLC was formed in 2021. PharmaLife Community holds true to its roots by serving those in LTC, Memory Care, and/or ALF. In addition, we collaborate in research to further provide data in hopes of procuring treatments to diseases or infections of the unknown.
